Daily updates from the trip:
Arrived!!!
Arrived Safely and ready to hit the “Pitch” (fields)
We arrived safely at the Loft after a brief pitstop at Allentown. We met some of the Loft staff and soon after the team ate dinner and headed for orientation. We learned about day #1’s devotional which focuses on where we can find truth in a society that can lie all around us. Our youth were broken into teams by the Loft staff and will act as “coaches” for their kids. They expect 73 day campers Illumin8 will help coach and lead in soccer, archery, boating, and challenge courses!
Looking forward to a fantastic week!!!
Day One – Trustworthy
Youth assigned teams!!!
It was a fantastic, (though hot and a bit tiring) day! The youth helped coach their teams where they had a chance lead day #1’s devotional with the kids. I got a chance to put my soccer coaching career to the test by leading the passing station for the older kids!! After a full morning of soccer and the devotional we ate lunch and did some camp activities afterwards. At night the youth had a chance to relax with the Loft staff with a Mexican themed meal and dessert.
Getting ready for Day #2 of camp!
Day Two – Christ Came
Day #2 – Jesus Came into the World…
Day 2 was both hard and easy at the same time. The sun was still hot and we needed plenty of water, but the youth knew better their roles as coaches for the kids as they helped learn the memory verse and lead the devotion that Christ came into the world for a purpose….to save sinners! After another long day of soccer and camping activities the youth enjoyed some down time with delicious Loft food, pool time, and some time playing games like Pictionary and Worst to First.
Day #3 – To Save Sinners
Day #3 – Christ Came To Save Sinners
I had the privilege for leading today’s “Big Game Talk” which focused on the third piece of the verse “to save sinners”. The devotion focused on how Jesus’ purpose was to take the punishment of death we deserved because of His great love for us. It was also awesome to see some of the youth start to make connections with several of the campers. In the evening was the traditional “Leader Game” where our own Allie Paine assisted with the game tying goal!!!
Thursday looks to be a bit rainy so please be in prayer for us!!!
Day #4 – The worst of all
Rain couldn’t stop God’s Word!
Thursday brought the rain, but that didn’t deter the youth of Illumin8 from continuing to serve with a grateful heart! The team was pushed and challenged (including their director!) in many ways, but that did not deter Illumin8 from being out in the pouring and cold rain during soccer caring for the kids needs. The Big Game Talk was led by Jonah and he did a fantastic job! Tomorrow the work concludes and we are praying for a wonderful closing ceremony day!
Day #5 – That’s a wrap!
Day #5 – Wrapping Up
Wow! What a week! On the last day of camp everything we learned from 1 Timothy 1:15 was reviewed with the kids. It was such an amazing week of serving. The youth bonded together in an amazing way and I saw God working not only in the lives of the 74 kids at camp but stretching our own youth who developed bonds and experiences. It was so special to see throughout the week how God worked in the lives of both our 10 youth and all the leaders that came. Please be in prayer for safe travels.
